Protests have begun in the center of Urmia city, the capital of West Azerbaijan province.
Axar.az reports the protests were sparked by the government's decision to relocate Iraqi and Syrian Kurds to the city.
All participants in the demonstration are Azerbaijanis.
It is noted that this protest is a response to the Kurds who have been trying to portray Urmia as part of Kurdistan. Recently, about 2,000 Kurds, relocated by the Iranian government to the Azerbaijani-inhabited regions, held a rally and chanted the slogan “Urmia is Kurdistan.”
