Lithuanian law enforcement authorities have detained 11 employees of a Kaunas-based company, including the company’s managers and drivers, who are citizens of Moldova and Bulgaria.
Axar.az reports, according to the country’s Customs Service, the investigation revealed that the company had devised a complex shadow scheme to supply Russia with water purification equipment designed and manufactured using components produced in the EU and China, and later used by Russian oil companies.
Officially, the goods from the Kaunas firm were purchased by a company in Portugal. In reality, however, the products were routed through Bulgaria to Turkey and then delivered to Russia.
“The Kaunas-based company, which maintained close and regular ties with Russian business entities, actively participated in projects carried out in Russia. One such project involved a Russian corporate group considered among the fastest-growing petrochemical companies in the world,” the official statement said.
