Israel expands nuclear facility near Dimona

Israel has accelerated the construction of a new facility related to its nuclear program.

Axar.az reports citing satellite images analyzed by experts.

It is reported that work is underway at the Shimon Peres Nuclear Research Center, located in the Negev desert, near the city of Dimona. According to experts, active construction work is a sign that Israel is moving towards developing nuclear weapons.

Satellite images were taken on July 5 by the US private company Planet Labs PBC. Analysts noted the facility's proximity to the Dimona reactor. There are no other power plants here.

Experts have different opinions. Three analysts, citing the location, size and possibility of a multi-story structure, announced that this could be a new heavy-water reactor. Such reactors can be used to produce plutonium and other materials needed for nuclear weapons.

Four experts did not rule out that this could also be a new facility for assembling nuclear weapons.
