Serbia seeks US waiver from NIS sanctions

Belgrade, with support from the Russian side, plans to send a letter to the United States next week requesting the suspension of sanctions imposed on the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS).

Axar.az reports that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated this.

“I expect that on Monday or Tuesday, together with the Russians and the parties deemed appropriate by Russia, we will send a letter to the US government. Let’s see if they agree to exempt us from the sanctions for one, two, or three months, as we have already started the process of changing the company’s board,” Vučić said.

It should be noted that in January, the US Department of the Treasury added Gazprom Neft, its CEO Alexander Dyukov, and NIS to its sanctions list.
