Japan plans to join a NATO-led initiative (PURL) to provide US-made munitions and equipment to Ukraine.

Axar.az informs, citing NHK, NATO and the United States established the mechanism in July 2025 to coordinate the purchase and delivery of US-manufactured munitions and equipment to Ukraine.

Multiple NATO officials told NHK that Japan is expected to formally announce its plan to contribute to the initiative soon.

The officials said Japan would provide funding only for non-lethal defense equipment, possibly including radar systems and bulletproof vests.
