Zelensky has once again discussed his phone call with Lukashenko, claiming that the Belarusian president offered an apology.
Axar.az informs, citing RBC, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in an interview with the Belarusian publication Zerkalo that there were witnesses to his 2022 phone conversation with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. According to Zelensky, during that call, Lukashenko apologized and offered to “carry out a strike” on Belarusian territory.
Zelensky first spoke about the details of the conversation last January in a podcast with Lex Fridman. According to him, in February 2022, Lukashenko insisted during the call that he had no connection to the military operation. He also apologized for what was happening, according to Zelensky.
Zelensky claims that Lukashenko suggested striking the Mozyr Oil Refinery, located in Belarus’s Gomel region, which borders northern Ukraine.
Later, Lukashenko’s press secretary, Natalia Eismont, denied Zelensky’s statements. “The President of Belarus did not apologize to Zelensky—for the simple reason that there is nothing to apologize for. First of all, because Ukraine, as we recall, was the first to impose sanctions on Belarus, even ahead of America and the entire West,” Eismont told RBC.
