Tehran announces death of Ayatollah Khamenei

The Iranian government announced on Sunday that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei was killed.

Axar.az, citing Tasnim, reports that according to Iranian authorities, he died following attacks carried out by Israel and the United States on Saturday morning.

Khamenei had served as Iran’s Supreme Leader since 1989, succeeding the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

In response to the strikes, the Iranian Armed Forces launched missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli territory and U.S. military bases in the region.
