Iran halts gas supplies to Iraq, causing power outage

Iran has completely halted gas transmission to Iraq, cutting more than 3,000 megawatts from Iraq’s electricity grid.

Axar.az reports, citing Iraqi News, according to the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, gas supplies fell from 19 million cubic meters to zero, significantly reducing power output.

The disruption follows US‑Israeli strikes on Iran’s South Pars gas field and Asaluyeh electricity facilities.

Iranian gas typically provides 30–40% of the fuel for Iraq’s combined-cycle power plants in central and southern regions.
