Thai tanker 'Mayuree Naree' targeted in Hormuz -

A Thai-flagged tanker, the Mayuree Naree, was struck by a missile in the Strait of Hormuz after reportedly attempting to transit the waterway without authorization from Iranian authorities.

Axar.az reports, citing CBS, the attack triggered a significant fire in the vessel's engine room.

Military analysts, including a former U.S. Navy missile officer, identified the likely weapon as a C-802 Noor missile—a highly capable anti-ship projectile with a range of 200 miles—which hit the ship just above the waterline.

The explosion in the stern forced an emergency evacuation of the crew. While the Omani Navy successfully rescued 20 sailors, three crew members remain missing and are believed to have been trapped in the engine room during the blaze.

The incident has significantly heightened maritime security concerns, as the vessel currently remains adrift near Iran's Qeshm Island, underscoring the extreme risks for civilian shipping in the strategically vital corridor.
