China vetoes UN resolution on Hormuz Strait

China has vetoed a UN Security Council resolution on the Strait of Hormuz.

Axar.az informs that the news was reported by Al Jazeera.

It was noted that 11 members of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution, while Russia and China voted against it, and Pakistan and Colombia abstained. As a result, the resolution was not adopted.

The draft resolution was initiated by Bahrain, acting as the current president of the Security Council, on behalf of the Arab states of the Persian Gulf. It received active support from other countries in the region as well as the United States.

The resolution would have authorized UN member states to take all necessary measures—including defensive military action—to protect commercial shipping and ensure the safe passage of tankers in and around the Strait of Hormuz. Its validity would have lasted for at least six months or until the Security Council decided otherwise.
