Iran says key differences blocked US deal in Pakistan

"There were differences in views on important issues, which prevented an agreement," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said.

Axar.az reports, citing Mehr, while the two sides reached understandings on a number of issues, differences remained on two to three key topics, which ultimately prevented an agreement.

“This round of negotiations was the longest we have held with the Americans in the past year, lasting around 24 to 25 hours,” he said.

He added that the talks began yesterday morning with indirect discussions and exchange of messages through Pakistan’s mediation, and continued continuously throughout the day and night.

Baghaei noted that various issues were discussed, including elements from Iran’s proposed package and points raised by the other side, but disagreements on several key matters ultimately prevented a deal.

It is noted that the US and Iranian delegations did not reach a final agreement during talks held in Islamabad.
