Belgium, Spain pledge €1B euros each for Ukraine's defense

Belgium and Spain will each provide €1 billion in defense assistance to Ukraine as part of expanded military cooperation, including support for air defense, drones, artillery, and aviation capabilities.

Axar.az reports, citing Ukrainian media, that Ukraine’s Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov shared the information following talks with Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken and Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles.

The discussions focused on strengthening air defense systems, developing drone capabilities, and ensuring front-line supplies of long-range artillery ammunition under the “Czech initiative.”

Fedorov said Belgium will allocate €1 billion in defense aid to Ukraine this year and has confirmed plans to transfer additional F-16 fighter jets, as well as provide spare parts for existing aircraft.

He added that Spain will also provide €1 billion in support to Ukraine, with cooperation also extending to defense industry development under the European SAFE mechanism.
