Temporary airspace shutdown announced in Armenia

Armenia will close its airspace from May 3 to May 5 for light and ultralight aircraft, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Axar.az reports, citing Armenian media, that Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia stated that the measure is linked to several international events being held in the country.

“Taking into account the large-scale events to be held in the Republic of Armenia from May 3 to May 5, 2026 (the 8th Summit of the Council of Europe, the Armenia-European Union Summit, and the Yerevan Dialogue), as well as the participation of numerous foreign delegations, we inform that during this period, for security reasons, flights of general aviation, including civilian UAVs, are prohibited in the airspace of the Republic of Armenia,” the statement said.

It should be noted that general aviation flights include non-commercial operations carried out for personal needs, training, sports, or private transport using small airplanes, helicopters, gliders, and paragliders. Such flights typically involve light and ultralight aircraft, including two-to-four-seat airplanes and helicopters.
