Germany may join Hormuz security mission, Merz says

Germany could contribute military assets to a potential international mission to secure the Strait of Hormuz, including minehunting boats, an escort ship, and reconnaissance aircraft.

Axar.az reports, citing Euronews, that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz plans to present a concrete proposal for German participation at upcoming international talks in Paris.

According to the proposal, any involvement by the Bundeswehr would take place only after a ceasefire and would be subject to approval by the German government and parliament.

The mission under discussion would include mine clearance, maritime reconnaissance, and long-range surveillance of the sea area.
