Which international law?! Europe should stop using ‘international law’ instrumentally while lecturing others, and while showing approval toward U.S.–Israeli military aggression against Iran and turning a blind eye to crimes committed against Iranians.
Axar.az reports, citing IRIB, spokesperson of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baghaei said Europe’s chronic failure to comply with international law has turned its references to it into a clear example of hypocrisy.
He added that no rule of international law prevents Iran, as a coastal state of the Strait of Hormuz, from taking necessary measures to prevent aggressors from using the strait for unlawful military attacks against Iran.
He also stated that the concept of “unconditional transit passage” in the Strait of Hormuz has effectively lost its validity since U.S. military bases and assets in the vicinity of the strait have been used for offensive operations against Iran, and that the responsibility for this situation lies with the United States.
It should be noted that the EU’s chief diplomat Kaja Kallas stated that, according to international law, transit through waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz must remain open and free, and that any toll-based passage scheme would set a dangerous precedent for global maritime routes.
