Iran is not ready to hold a new round of face-to-face talks with the United States due to what it calls Washington’s “maximalist” demands.
Axar.az reports, speaking to the Associated Press on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkiye, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said there have been multiple exchanges between the two sides, but accused the U.S. of maintaining unrealistic positions on key issues.
“We are still not there yet to move on to an actual meeting because there are issues that the Americans have not yet abandoned their maximalist position,” Khatibzadeh said, adding that Iran is seeking a “framework agreement” before any in-person talks.
He also rejected U.S. claims regarding Iran’s nuclear materials, saying, “No enriched material is going to be shipped to United States,” calling such demands “nonstarters.”
The remarks come after U.S. President Donald Trump said Washington would act to retrieve what he described as “nuclear dust,” referring to 970 pounds (440 kilograms) of enriched uranium allegedly buried under Iranian nuclear sites damaged in earlier U.S. strikes.
Khatibzadeh further urged Washington to address Iran’s concerns over sanctions, which he described as “illegal unilateral sanctions” and “economic terrorism.”
