Russian forces intensify operations in Sumy region

Russian forces remain far from the city of Sumy and are carrying out limited operations along the border in the Sumy Oblast.

Axar.az reports citing Ukrainian media, Russian troops have intensified activity in the border area, using small tactical groups to enter frontier villages and exert pressure on Ukrainian forces.

“These are small tactical units — squads or platoons — that enter border settlements, particularly those without a permanent military presence. In some cases, they may attempt to advance 1–3 kilometers into Ukrainian territory,” military-political observer Oleksandr Kovalenko said.

Experts emphasize that these actions are localized and do not indicate a large-scale offensive or an attempt to encircle the city. They also note that Russia currently lacks the resources for a major operation in this direction.

It should be noted that earlier reports suggested Russian forces had advanced toward several settlements in the region, though the situation remains fluid and limited to border areas.
