Forty-two pupils missing after school attack in Nigeria

At least 42 schoolchildren are missing after suspected Islamist militants attacked a school in northeastern Nigeria’s Borno state.

Axar.az reports, citing Reuters, the attack occurred on Friday at Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in the Askira-Uba area, where armed men abducted students during school hours.

Lawmaker Ali Ndume said 32 pupils were taken from the school compound, while another 10 were seized from nearby homes.

Authorities in Nigeria have not yet confirmed the incident or provided official figures. No group has claimed responsibility, though the region has long been affected by insurgent activity linked to Boko Haram.

Borno state remains the centre of a long-running insurgency, and has previously witnessed large-scale school kidnappings, including the 2014 Chibok abduction that drew global attention.

The development comes amid continued security operations in the region, including reports of a joint US–Nigerian operation targeting a senior ISIS figure in the area.
