NATO states may intervene if needed in Hormuz

NATO is currently not directly involved in developments surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, the Chief of NATO Military Committee, Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, stated that member states are positioning their forces closer to the region and remain prepared to act if required.

“NATO does not directly play a role at the moment. But NATO countries do play such a role. When the conditions are met, I believe they will be able to carry out their task,” Dragone said.

He added that the situation does not concern NATO as an institution, but rather a “coalition of the willing” consisting of allied and partner countries that are preparing for possible action should the necessary conditions emerge.

Dragone also noted that ensuring the openness of the Strait and clearing it of mines would be a complex task.
