'United Russia' nominates Kadyrov for Chechnya vote

Ramzan Kadyrov has been nominated by the United Russia party as its candidate in the upcoming election for Head of Chechnya.

Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, that the decision was adopted unanimously at a conference of the party's regional branch in Grozny.

“By unanimous decision, Ramzan Akhmatovich Kadyrov, Head of the Chechen Republic, member of the Supreme Council of the United Russia party and Hero of Russia, has been nominated,” the conference announced.

Earlier, reports had suggested that Kadyrov would not be among United Russia's candidates.

Kadyrov has led Chechnya since April 2007.
