Trump threatens EU with tariffs over tech fines

U.S. President Donald Trump said his administration will launch a Section 301 investigation into the European Union's treatment of American technology companies and warned that Brussels could face significant tariffs.

Axar.az reports that in a post on Truth Social, Trump accused the EU of unfairly targeting major U.S. firms with multibillion-dollar fines.

"The European Union is at it again and, as usual, taking direct aim at GREAT American Companies!" Trump said.

He claimed that the EU had fined Apple $15 billion, Meta $3 billion, Amazon $2.5 billion, and most recently Google $1 billion, adding, "This brings the Google total to over 18 Billion Dollars!"

Trump described the fines as "illegal and highly discriminatory" and announced that Washington would "immediately initiate a 301 Investigation into the practice of 'ROBBING' American Companies and, in turn, the American Taxpayer."

"The European Union will pay a very big price for this illegal and highly unethical conduct, which I have consistently warned them about," Trump said.

"The penalties will be entirely reversed and, we anticipate, a substantial TARIFF to be placed on them at the earliest possible moment," he added.
