US reaffirms support for Japan over disputed islands

U.S. Ambassador to Japan George Glass said Washington remains unwavering in its support for Japan and recognizes Japanese sovereignty over the Northern Territories.

Axar.az reports that Glass made the remarks in a post on X.

"The United States remains unwavering in its support for Japan, its most important ally, and in its recognition of Japan’s sovereignty over the Northern Territories. As Japan and the United States work through their alliance to promote prosperity across the Indo-Pacific, we strongly oppose any actions that undermine peace and stability in the region," the statement reads.

It should be noted that Japan had condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to the disputed Iturup Island in the Kuril Islands and issued statements of protest.
