US President Donald Trump said his administration is considering implementing legislation that would tighten sanctions on Russia and Iran’s oil and gas exports.

Axar.az reports that Trump made the remarks while answering reporters' questions ahead of a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

"That's something we're certainly studying. It's a very severe bill," Trump said when asked about the possibility of applying the law.

Trump also said he could discuss secondary sanctions against Russia’s trading partners during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

"We're going to talk about a lot. It's going to be a great meeting, and we're going to have a look," he added.

It should be noted that Trump signed a bill several days ago providing for tougher sanctions against Russia. The legislation allows for tariffs of up to 100% on Russia’s trading partners, including major buyers of Russian oil and gas.
