Neria Leiter, son of Israel’s Ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter, was seriously wounded in a car-ramming attack at the Maccabim checkpoint near Modi’in on Wednesday.

Axar.az reports, citing The Jerusalem Post, that Leiter, an IDF reservist and US citizen, was seriously injured when a vehicle struck a police patrol vehicle at the checkpoint. He is being treated at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem.

The attacker, identified as 29-year-old Muhammad Mahmoud Suleiman from Beit Ur al-Tahta, was killed by IDF troops while attempting to flee the scene.

Yechiel Leiter said his son remained in serious condition and asked for prayers for his recovery. Another of Leiter’s sons, Maj. (res.) Moshe Yedidya Leiter, was killed in Gaza in 2023.

Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog, expressed support for the Leiter family and called for Neria’s recovery.
