Afghanistan officially opened a more than 121-kilometer road through the Wakhan Corridor on Sunday, establishing a road connection between Afghanistan and China.
Axar.az reports, citing Tolo News, that the unpaved road runs from the Boroghil border area to the zero point on the Chinese border in northeastern Badakhshan province. Construction began two years ago and cost 365 million afghani.
The road is expected to boost Afghanistan’s trade, economic development and regional transit links. The Wakhan Corridor also attracts domestic and international tourists, with visitor numbers expected to rise as further development projects are completed.
