Albania could join the European Union before 2030 if positive momentum among member states continues, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said on Tuesday.

Axar.az reports, citing Albanian media, that Kos made the remarks in Luxembourg after the 10th Albania-EU Intergovernmental Conference.

Asked whether the EU’s new accession rules could pave the way for Albania to join before 2030, Kos said it was too early to give a definitive answer. However, she noted that the current momentum among member states offered strong encouragement to candidate countries seeking membership.

Kos said the outlook would become clearer as Albania moves closer to concluding its accession negotiations. She also reaffirmed the EU’s support for Albania’s ambition to complete the negotiations by the end of 2027.
