Ukraine loses 800,000 citizens in one year

Vasyl Voskoboinyk, head of the country’s Migration Policy Department, has said that Ukraine’s demographic situation remains critical.

Axar.az reports, citing Ukrainian media, that Voskoboinyk said the number of deaths in Ukraine currently exceeds the number of births by three times.

He noted that the negative trend reached a critical level in the first half of this year, when approximately 3.5 deaths were recorded for every child born.

“For every child born in Ukraine in the first half of this year, there were 3.5 deaths. For every 10 people born, 35 died,” Voskoboinyk said.

He added that the continued outflow of Ukrainian citizens from the country was further worsening the situation.

“The combination of these two factors has led to the current demographic picture, resulting in the loss of 800,000 citizens in just one year,” he said.
