Over 90 killed in six months of clashes in southern Iran

At least 63 armed incidents were recorded across Iran’s southeastern provinces of Sistan and Baluchestan and Kerman between March 31 and October 10, 2026, amid a sharp escalation in armed violence in the region.

Axar.az reports, citing US-based human rights group HRANA, that according to local and unofficial reports, the incidents left at least 94 people dead and 33 injured, while official sources reported 87 fatalities and 10 injuries. The pace of violence accelerated significantly in recent weeks, with 18 incidents recorded in just the final 18 days of the reporting period, surpassing the total for any previous full month.

The escalation has also been accompanied by a shift in the nature of confrontations, from targeted shootings and attacks on patrol vehicles to coordinated ambushes, roadside bombings, and the reported use of rocket-propelled grenades and heavier weaponry.
