Today, the election of the new speaker of the parliament is being held at the session of the 28th session of the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye.

Axar.az reports that the first round of elections has already ended. According to the results of the first round, the candidate for the position of Speaker of the Parliament, Justice and Development Party's first deputy chairman Numan Gurtulmush, received 317 votes, while Tekin Bingol, the candidate of the Republican People's Party, received 131 votes.

In total, 7 MPs were nominated for the position of speaker.

To become the 30th chairman of the GNAT, one of the candidates needs to collect the votes of 400 out of 600 deputies. If they do not reach this number in the second round, the third round of elections will be held. In the last round, the candidate who received the majority of votes - 301 - will become the new speaker of the parliament.

It should be noted that in the last parliamentary elections, the ruling Justice and Development Party won 268 seats, the Republican People's Party 169, the IYI Party 43, the New Welfare Party 5, the Green Left Party 61, and the Nationalist Movement Party 50 seats.

The second round of voting was held in the GNAT. Here too, it was not possible to elect a new speaker. So, the required 400 votes were not collected.

Although Numan Gurtulmush increased the number of votes, albeit slightly (321), it was not enough. The third round of voting is currently underway.
