During the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi for the first time.

During the meeting, there was a broad exchange of views on the current status of work surrounding Iran's nuclear program under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, as well as on pressing international and regional issues, including the situation in the South Caucasus and the Palestine-Israel conflict.
The mutual interest in maintaining a high level of coordination in foreign policy was emphasized.
The parties confirmed the unchanging line of establishing strategic partnership relations between Russia and Iran and their commitment to implementing all previously agreed joint projects.
The ministers reviewed the schedule for upcoming contacts at high and senior levels.
Sergey Lavrov also invited his Iranian counterpart to visit Moscow at a suitable time.
