Assad and family granted asylum in Russia - Official

The ousted president of Syria, Assad, and his family members arrived in Moscow, where the Russian Federation gave them asylum.

Axar.az informs that TASS reported this with reference to a source in the Kremlin.

"Assad and his family members came to Russia based on humanitarian considerations and were given asylum," said the interlocutor of the agency.

It was added that the leaders of the Syrian armed opposition guaranteed the security of Russian military bases and diplomatic institutions.

It should be noted that before that, it was believed that Il-76 cargo plane carrying Bashar Assad crashed due to its disappearance from radars and that Assad died.

The Syrian opposition captured Damascus today and announced the overthrow of the Assad regime.
