The Syrian Ministry of Defense has denied entry to a Russian military convoy to the base in Tartus.

Axar.az informs that this was reported by TRT.

The report states that a convoy of 30 trucks loaded with missiles, which had departed from the Khmeimim airbase in Latakia province, was stopped by Syrian government troops at the Tartus checkpoint.

After waiting for eight hours at the checkpoint, the convoy had to return to the Khmeimim base.

It was noted that the incident occurred after Syrian interim government Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Khasran stated that ‘if it benefits Syria, it will keep Russian military bases in Tartus and Khmeimim on its territory.’

It should be noted that Russian military forces have been using the Khmeimim base since August 2015 under an agreement with Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
