Aliza Magen, the first and only woman to serve as deputy director of Israel’s Mossad spy agency, has died at the age of 88, the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed on behalf of the Mossad.

Axar.az, citing Times of Israel, reports, born in Jerusalem, Magen joined the Mossad in her twenties and went on to hold numerous senior positions both in Israel and abroad. She ultimately served as deputy to three Mossad chiefs, playing a key role in hundreds of intelligence operations during her distinguished career.

Mossad Director David Barnea praised Magen as “one of the pillars of the Mossad,” stating that she left a lasting legacy on the agency and helped shape generations of operatives through her leadership and values. She is remembered as a trailblazer, both for women in intelligence and for Israel’s national security.
