The leader of the Christian Democratic Union, Friedrich Merz, failed to collect enough votes in the Bundestag to be elected Chancellor of Germany in the first round.
Axar.az reports that this was stated by the speaker of the German parliament, Julia Kloeckner.
It is noted that Merz received the support of 310 deputies, while the number of votes needed to be elected Chancellor is 316.

Friedrich Merz has become the new Chancellor of Germany.
The Bundestag approved his candidacy on the second attempt. The politician managed to collect 325 votes - more than the required 316 votes.
