U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the development of a new missile defense initiative called the "Golden Dome", aimed at protecting the country from advanced aerial threats, including hypersonic missiles and space-launched attacks.

Axar.az, citing BBC, reports that the system, inspired by Israel’s Iron Dome but significantly more advanced and larger, will integrate land, sea, and space-based technologies.

An initial $25 billion is allocated in a pending budget bill, though long-term costs could exceed $542 billion over 20 years.

The system is expected to be operational by the end of Trump’s presidency.

Space Force General Michael Guetlein will lead the project. Canada has expressed interest in joining the initiative. Trump claims the system will have a near-100% success rate and be capable of intercepting global and space-based missile threats.
