Russia is preparing a letter to Armenia stating that Yerevan's new norms aimed at rapprochement with the European Union (EU) contradict the rules of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Axar.az informs citing TASS that this was stated by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk.
"The Armenian parliament has adopted a law reflecting its intention to join the European Union. We are closely following the development of events in Armenia in this direction. We will always respect the choice of the Armenian people, but Nikol Vovayevich Pashinyan also confirmed that it is impossible for Armenia to be in the Eurasian Economic Union and the EU at the same time," Overchuk told journalists.
He noted that Russia is observing the processes taking place within the framework of Armenia's rapprochement with the EU.
"The regulatory legal framework of the Republic of Armenia is developing regulatory acts that simplify the rules for certifying food products imported from non-member states of the Eurasian Economic Union. This means that products that do not meet our requirements may enter the internal market of the Eurasian Economic Union. We are raising this issue for discussion at the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission," he added.
Overchuk said that he plans to sign a letter addressed to Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan stating that "these actions contradict the norms of the Eurasian Economic Union."
"We will consider taking appropriate measures," he stressed.
