The European Parliament has halted consideration of a petition regarding the reopening of Finland’s border with Russia.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by European Parliament representative Alessio Incorvaia.

“The European Parliament’s Petitions Committee has decided to close this request. In the context of the conflict in Ukraine and hybrid threats originating from Russia, Finland has the right to close certain border crossing points in accordance with the Schengen Code,” he said.

It should be noted that in October 2024, the European Parliament had accepted a petition from Finland’s Russian-speaking residents regarding the closure of a border crossing point by Helsinki.
