The date for the commissioning of the Igdir-Nakhchivan natural gas pipeline has been announced.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayrakdar.

According to him, the completion works are underway on the Igdir-Nakhchivan pipeline. The minister added that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will attend the opening ceremony of the gas pipeline, which will be commissioned next week.

State officials from Azerbaijan and Turkiye will also attend the event.

It should be noted that the Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline will allow Nakhchivan to diversify its gas supply, eliminating its dependence on a single source. On December 15, 2020, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Azerbaijan and Turkiye in Ankara on the construction of the Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline. According to the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, dated February 10, 2022, funds have been allocated from the state budget for the construction of the Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline. The project is among the priority projects of the “State Program on the Socio-Economic Development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for 2023–2027”.

The length of the pipeline from Igdir to Sadarak district is 97.5 kilometers. The length of the Azerbaijani section of the pipeline is 17.5 kilometers, and the length of the Turkish section is 80 kilometers. The pipeline can transport 2 million cubic meters of gas per day and 730 million cubic meters per year, which will fully meet the gas demand of Nakhchivan.

In the future, it is possible to more than double the transmission capacity of the pipeline.
