WHO marks 5 years of COVID-19 and ongoing efforts

The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced the results of the fight against this disease and the ongoing efforts to study it, five years after the emergence of COVID-19.

Axar.az reports that the press service of the WHO published information about this.

WHO recalled that on December 31, 2019, the China Country Office found a press release on the website of the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission about cases of "viral pneumonia" in the city.

"In the coming weeks, months and years, COVID-19 has changed our lives and our world," the UN agency said.

Worldwide, 777,074,803 infections and more than seven million deaths caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus have been confirmed. "We continue to urge China to share and provide access to data so that we can understand the origins of COVID-19," the WHO said.

"This is a moral and scientific imperative. Without transparency, information exchange, and cooperation between countries, the world cannot adequately prevent and prepare for future epidemics and pandemics," the statement said.
