During December 2022, the State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan, the State Border Service continued measures to ensure reliable protection of the state border and fight against smuggling, illegal migration, and illegal drug trafficking,

Axar.az reports citing the SBS that during the month, 73 people were detained for violating the state border, 24 of those were citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, 18 of Sri Lanka, 16 of Pakistan, five from India, three from Iran, three from Afghanistan, one from Bangladesh, 1 of Tajikistan and 2 of the Republic of Turkiye.

As part of activities to combat illegal migration, 43 people were detained while attempting to cross the state border with forged passports, visas, and date stamps.

1577 people were detained, and appropriate measures were taken against them for violating border regime rules.
