OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has welcomed the signing of a Joint Declaration in Washington D.C. between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Axar.az informs OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Pere Joan Pons (Spain), OSCE PA Special Representative on the South Caucasus Luis Graça (Portugal), and Secretary General Roberto Montella today welcomed the signing of a Joint Declaration in Washington D.C. between Armenia and Azerbaijan, calling it a historic breakthrough toward lasting peace in the South Caucasus.

“This jointly signed vision for peace, witnessed at the highest international level, sends a powerful message: that the time of war is over, and the time of building real peace has come,” said OSCE PA President Pere Joan Pons. “By pledging to close the chapter of enmity, uphold the inviolability of borders, and resolutely reject any return to violence, the leaders of Yerevan and Baku have shown the courage to chart a new path forward — and to demonstrate to the world that peace is not only possible, but within reach.”

Special Representative on the South Caucasus Luis Graça added: “This is ultimately about people — about ending decades of fear and uncertainty and creating opportunities for a new generation to grow up in peace. Today’s commitments to peace and the reciprocal opening of communications will change daily lives once implemented with sincerity and vision.”

OSCE PA Secretary General Roberto Montella emphasized: “Our Assembly will continue to serve as a platform for constructive dialogue and is ready to support this new chapter. The strength of peace lies in its implementation, and we will continue working with parliamentarians across the region to encourage reconciliation and democratic cooperation, offering our good offices for parliamentary engagement and confidence-building.”

In the OSCE PA’s Porto Declaration, adopted last month at the 32nd Annual Session, parliamentarians welcomed the progress in the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and encouraged both sides to advance the process in good faith and through constructive bilateral dialogue.
