Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan called the meetings and agreements in Washington a historic event.
Axar.az reports that Mirzoyan evaluated the initialing of the Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Inter-State Relations at the White House as an important milestone in normalizing Armenia-Azerbaijan relations.
According to him, this marks the start of the phase ensuring peace through official and permanent mechanisms.
The minister said that the joint statements issued after the initialing indicate no tension at the border and effectively confirm peace has been established. He also noted that an important stage of talks regarding opening communications and restoring infrastructure has been completed, although significant work remains on technical details.
Mirzoyan emphasized that the Washington Declaration clearly states that infrastructure projects will be carried out within the framework of both countries’ territorial integrity, sovereignty, and jurisdiction, based on mutual benefit, with no third-party control envisaged.
He added that with this agreement, Armenia has ended its blockade after 35 years and Azerbaijan will be able to use railway infrastructure for international trade.
The minister noted that the text of the initialed peace agreement will be made public on August 11.
