UNGA adopts 'Supporting Sustainable Peace in Ukraine'

The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution titled “Supporting Sustainable Peace in Ukraine” during a session marking the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Axar.az, citing UN, reports that 107 countries voted in favor, 12 against, and 51 abstained.

Speakers at the session highlighted the human and strategic costs of the war. Rosemary DiCarlo, Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, described the conflict as a “blatant violation of international law,” noting that over 15,000 civilians have been killed, more than 41,000 injured, and millions displaced or in need of humanitarian aid.

France called for an “immediate, full and unconditional ceasefire,” criticizing Moscow’s ongoing aggression and diplomatic maneuvers, while Latvia’s Foreign Minister Baiba Braže stated that “Russia’s aggression is failing,” noting the loss of over 400,000 Russian troops in 2025 alone and minimal territorial gains.

The United Kingdom pledged continued support for Ukraine, announcing its “largest package of measures since 2022” targeting Russian oil revenues and war-related supplies.

The Security Council also held a high-level briefing on Ukraine, with participation from Ukraine, several European countries, and UN officials, marking the anniversary of the invasion.
