The US-Iran ceasefire deal is a remarkable and historical development in contemporary global politics. In this development, the role played by Pakistan in maintaining peace in the world is highly commendable. At a time when tensions between the United States and Iran had brought the world at the brink of war, Pakistan stepped forward with wisdom, patience, and strong leadership. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan worked tirelessly behind the scenes, it burned midnight oil, engaged in backchannel diplomacy and took all the stakeholders in confidence.
This was stated by Pakistani political analyst Khalid Taimur Akram in an interview with Axar.az while assessing the two-week ceasefire between US and Iran.
"The United States and Iran have agreed to a two-week ceasefire, creating a window of opportunity for peace. This ceasefire is not just a pause in conflict but a major diplomatic success, as it has opened the door for meaningful negotiations. Importantly, Pakistan has hosted and facilitated these efforts through what is now being called the Islamabad peace process.
The upcoming talks scheduled in Islamabad on April 10 are a direct result of Pakistan’s proactive diplomacy. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif personally invited key stakeholders, demonstrating Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue and peaceful resolution. This shows that Pakistan is not only a regional player but also a responsible global actor capable of mediating complex international conflicts. Pakistan’s neutrality has been one of its greatest strengths in this process. Maintaining good relations with both Iran and the United States, Pakistan has been able to act as a trusted mediator. This balanced approach has allowed it to bring both sides to the table, something that many powerful nations were unable to achieve.
The international community has widely welcomed this development. Leaders across the world see this ceasefire as a critical step toward long-term peace and stability. Pakistan’s role has been praised as a “game changer,” proving that sincere diplomacy, patience, and leadership can prevent large-scale conflicts.
In essence, Pakistan’s efforts under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir have not only helped avoid a devastating war but also given hope to the world. If the upcoming Islamabad talks succeed, this could mark the beginning of lasting peace, and Pakistan will be remembered as the country that brought rival powers together when it mattered most," he noted.
It should be noted that the two-week ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States entered into force on April 8.
The parties are set to begin talks on a peace plan in Islamabad starting from April 10.
