Official Tehran has confirmed that Seyed Jafar Aghaei Maryan, Iran's chargé d'affaires in Baku, was summoned to Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and handed an official protest note.

Axar.az reports this information, citing RBC.

The protest of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry was related to the thoughtless and inappropriate statements of a person at a ceremony in one of the northwestern cities of our country. It is important to note that such statements do not reflect the official stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said Mojtaba Demirchilu, assistant to Iran's foreign minister and head of the ministry's Eurasia department.

It should be noted that on December 29, 2024, during an event in Ardabil attended by Seyyed Hassan Amoli, the representative of Iran's Supreme Leader in Ardabil province and the Friday Imam of Ardabil, offensive remarks were made against Azerbaijan and its head of state. This event was broadcast on Iran's "Khabar Network" channel.

In response Iran's chargé d'affaires in Baku, Seyed Jafar Aghaei Maryan was summoned to Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a strong protest was conveyed to the Iranian side regarding these remarks.

Azerbaijan demanded an end to such provocations against the country.
