Super Moon peaks tonight

Today, a Super Moon event is observed.

Axar.az informs, the event began at 17:10 on November 5 and will end at 08:10 on November 6.

The Moon's closest approach to the Earth will occur at 02:30 on the night of November 5-6.

At the same time, during the Super Moon event, the Moon will be approximately 8 percent larger and 16 percent brighter than a normal full Moon.

The distance of the Moon from the Earth is 356,832 km.

For your information, the Super Moon event does not pose any danger to humans. It's just that as the Moon approaches the Earth, its gravitational pull has a greater effect on ocean and sea levels. This can lead to water levels that are 3-5 cm higher than usual.

Recall that the maximum approach of the Moon to the Earth (perigee) occurred on January 4, 1912, and at that time the distance was 356 thousand 375 km. In subsequent years, the closest approach was on January 26, 1948, at 356 thousand 508 km, on November 14, 2016, at 356 thousand 509 km, and on January 1, 2018, at 356 thousand 565 km. The next Super Moon event with maximum approach (356 thousand 447 km) will occur on November 25, 2034.
