The meeting between President Ilham Aliyev and US President Donald Trump in Davos is much more meaningful than an ordinary diplomatic contact. This meeting should be seen as a real manifestation of the diplomatic power and political weight that Azerbaijan has consistently built up over the past few years.
Axar.az reports that Turkish expert Mehmet Amir Aksoy expressed these views in an interview with Azertac.
According to him, it is no coincidence that President Ilham Aliyev is at the same table with the main players on a global platform like Davos at a stage when the global system is being reshaped, alliances are tightening, and leadership diplomacy is once again at the forefront:
“The current situation is not the result of someone’s good intentions. This position is the logical conclusion of the patient, result-oriented and strategic foreign policy pursued in the post-Victory period.”
Mehmet Emir Aksoy emphasized that President Ilham Aliyev's contacts in Davos show that Azerbaijan is no longer just a regional actor, but a state that can play in a multinational diplomatic league:
"Azerbaijan has reached this stage step by step, with its own political will and strategic decisions."
