Sex should be for pleasure, right? Sadly for some it's the opposite.

A recent paper published by Sexual Medicine Reviews titled “Did You Climax or Are You Just Laughing at Me?” Rare Phenomena Associated With Orgasm" discovered that pain and embarrassment are an unfortunate experience for some, post-sex.

The study of peri-orgasmic phenomena learnt that headaches weakness, crying, dysorgasmia [pain], dysphoria [unease], facial and/or ear pain, foot pain, headache, pruritus, laughter, panic attack, post-orgasm illness syndrome, seizures and sneezing were also symptoms of sex.

Research for the paper dated back as far as the 1900s, where post-coital sneezing and laughing were reported.

Despite their rigorous investigations sex experts can't determine how many people experience unusual orgasms due the lack of documentation on the subject.

Sex expert Chantelle Otten does state that coital cephalalgia [or headaches in plain English] is the most popular condition and can present itself in two different types.

Type 1 involves pressure in the back of the head that builds into a headache during sexual activity. Type 2 is when a piercing, pounding headache occurs just prior or at time of orgasm.

If you think that you might suffer from some of these conditions the experts do recommend some remedies.

Headaches and contractions of the jaw and neck can be stopped with relaxation techniques.

For more drastic reactions like panic attacks and seizures, consulting your doctor is the best place to start.

Smaller conditions like foot pain, sneezing and laughter may be simply down to embarrassment, but if you're worried a therapist or doctor will help.
