Former MNS official stripped of his rank of colonel

The Baku Military Court has concluded the trial on the criminal case of the former deputy head of Investigative Department of the liquidated Ministry of National Security, Vusal Alakbarov, who had been arrested on bribery charges.

Axar.az reports that according to the court judgment, Vusal Alakbarov was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The court also issued a ruling stripping Alakbarov of his rank of colonel.

By the court decision, Alakbarov’s property was confiscated and handed over to businessman Akif Gurbanov, who is recognized as a victim in the criminal case.

The civil lawsuits of other victims were rejected.

The court sent a submission to the prosecutor’s office upon the complaints of the victims to initiate criminal proceedings against former minister Eldar Mahmudov and former head of the Main Investigation Department of the liquidated MNS Movlan Shikhaliyev.
