A 27-year-old woman was surrounded by a group of men then raped in a "terrifying" early morning attack, police say.

Axar.az reports citing Mirror that, the victim, who cannot be legally named, was allegedly attacked near bushes in Stockport, Greater Manchester, a week ago.

She was surrounded by the group, all wearing dark clothing, in the Lancashire Hill area, the Manchester Evening News reports.

She was then allegedly attacked and raped around 50 yards from a block of flats, close to the junction of Cymbal Court, and Penny Lane.

A manhunt has been launched for three men following the incident, which occurred between 6.10am and 6.45am on Saturday.

The location of the alleged attack is less than half a mile from the town center but is surrounded by trees and bushes.

Police are trying to establish how many of the men raped the woman.

Detective Inspector Cheryl Hughes, of GMP’s Stockport borough, said: “This was a terrifying attack on a woman in the early hours of the morning.

“No one should feel unsafe or be taken advantage of in this way and specialist officers are looking after the victim and ensuring she has the support she needs.

“This kind of crime is shocking and I am urging anyone who may have information or was around Penny Lane at this time to contact the police.

"I am also appealing for anyone who assisted the victim to contact the police as you may hold important information.”
